Business Consultant



Business Consultant.



Salary from; £44.000 per annum.



Salary to; £56.000 per annum.



Location; South East>Berkshire>Reading>Aldermaston.



Start Date; ASAP.



To support investment managers in producing compelling and robust business cases.



To develop and continuously improve company business case development and management capabilities.



To develop overview of programmes, projects and associated dependencies and relationships.



To provide independent review of company propositions and projects in support of the company and MoD gate process.



To work with portfolios, programmes and the projects community to provide confidence in delivery capability.



(1) To provide author support to investment managers in developing business cases ensuring that:



A robust and compelling case is made.



Business case process and preparation meet company and MoD standards.



Appropriate internal standards are developed and achieved.



All cases identify information gaps.



A consistent approach and content is adopted.



(2) To provide independent review of project and commercial proposals as required to ensure that:



The scope provides the best value solution to the requirements.



The scope, schedule and cost are all soundly based and controlled.



Risks are fully understood and managed.



The commercial position is sound.



There is a smooth passage through the investment appraisal process (company and MoD).



(3) To define and improve associated company standards and ensure that best practice is maintained



Responsibilities;



Advise Head of Sponsorship & Scrutiny on the consistent application of appropriate standards.



Support investment managers and project managers from the earliest stages, helping to understand and develop strategies and advise accordingly of any concerns.



Define, maintain and develop best practice.



Liaise with Nuclear Weapons Integrated Project Teams (NWIPT) and CAS (Cost Assurance Services) on investment appraisal, sanctioning and internal process.



Advise company sanctioning and/or review bodies as to whether projects have been rigorously developed.



Provide advice on commercial and financial viability of projects.



To ensure that the company's commercial position is protected.



Maintain associated best practices.



Comply with the company's Health and Safety & Security standards.



Qualifications;



Degree or equivalent as a minimum, preferably in Business management or similar

Membership of a professional body desirable.



Knowledge;



Extensive knowledge of business case development and its scrutiny and marketing.



A working knowledge of commercial proposal preparation.



A working knowledge of commercial project delivery processes and project management.



A working knowledge of UK contracting and pricing principles.



A working knowledge of estimating, project process and risk management.



A strong appreciation of optioneering and structured problem solving techniques and practices.



Experience;



Extensive post qualification experience with a significant time spent in a major technical projects environment.



Preparation of commercial and technical proposals up to £10M in value with high degrees of complexity.



Project accounting experience.



Project management at different levels, including a position of responsibility.



Experience of the MoD process is desirable.



Experience of Earned Value Management, three point estimating (3PE) is desirable.



‘Hands-on' experience of project audit and statistical analysis would be an advantage.



Skills;



Needs sound judgement to be able to make objective decisions based on complex sets of information and data.



Excellent communication skills both verbal and written are essential in the frequent dealings with Directors and Business Leaders.



Excellent influencing skills; advice needs to be respected because of ability and experience.



Independence.



Strongly numerate.



Diplomatic.
